Wilson County Historical Commission Announces New Legacy Awards Program

Wilson County, Texas – June 10, 2024 – The Wilson County Historical Commission is proud to announce the creation of the Legacy Business Award and Legacy Land Award programs, recognizing businesses and families who have significantly shaped the county's history. This program, approved by the Wilson County Commissioners Court today, honors the enduring contributions that have made Wilson County the vibrant community it is today.

The program features two categories:

  • Legacy Business Award: This award recognizes businesses that have continuously operated in Wilson County for a minimum of 25 years, with milestones at 50, 75, and 100 years or more.
  • Legacy Land Award: This award honors families who have stewarded the same piece of land in Wilson County for at least 75 or 100 years, passed down through generations.

Anyone can nominate a deserving business or family for this prestigious recognition. Here's what you need to know for nominations:

  • Legacy Business Award:
    • Family- or corporate-owned business registered in Wilson County
    • Continuous operation in Wilson County for 25+ years (with increments of recognition)
    • Current ownership doesn't require being original founders, but the business identity must remain consistent
    • Completed nomination form with owner's consent and proof of continuous operation for the nominated years
  • Legacy Land Award:
    • Land located within Wilson County (any size)
    • Owned by the same family for a minimum of 75 or 100 years
    • Completed nomination form with owner's consent and proof of continuous land ownership for the nominated years

Honorees will receive a certificate from the Wilson County Commissioners Court, acknowledging their lasting impact on the community.
